Cro-Magnon Art in Lot River Valley

These pieces of carvings, paintings, and clay vessels are from the Pech Merle and other caves of the Lot River Valley.  It is believed that these date 25,000 years ago which are even before the ones at Lascaux.  We saw a mud-preserved Cro-Magnon footprint in the museum (yes, it did look a bit like Sasquatch's)

Speaking of Cro-Magnon Man, Caves, etc...do you know where that word came from? Our guide told us that the Cro is the word from the ancient language of that area meaning "hole in the ground" and that the first artifacts were found in the Cro that belonged to the Magnon family...hence, Cro-Magnon is the "the hole in the ground from the Magnon place"
