Carcasonne

Carcassonne is a 13th-century world of towers, turrets, and cobblestones. It has been named "Europe's ultimate walled fortress city."  We stayed behind that wall, in what is called La Cite. The Romans built Carcassone's first wall, upon which the bigger medieval wall was constructed.  La Cite remained a French military garrison until the 18th century.
