Nice: Henri Matisse Museum

This small museum with the red walls and bright yellow shutters contains a sampling of works from the various periods of Henri Matisse's long artistic career.

Although there were some paintings, the main exhibit just opened is called "Matisse: the Cut Out Sky" which featured his paper cutouts. It is painted paper which is cut, pinned, and then pasted onto the final paper.   The work shows the process of his technique which combines drawing, sculpture and painting.

We saw his pencil and charcoal drawings as well as bronze sculptures.  The sketches and models of the Chapel of the Rosary he designed in Vence were also on display.  For Cindy, it was another special treat to see these images which are common  in art books.
